If you’re a Vrbo host and you’re reading this you’ve probably come across the following problem: Vrbo does not allow API connections for hosts with less than 5 properties. This leaves hosts only 2 options: Either sync via ical (and we’ll discuss the shortcomings of this option below) or use a channel manager or PMS that takes control of their properties in order to sync via API.
The first option is not ideal because iCal files are notoriously slow to update, and are riddled with bugs that make them unusable or broken all too often. You can read an article on the disadvantages of iCal syncing here.
The second option is even worse because your properties are now transferred to another hosts account who will receive all payments on your behalf. Most hosts we’ve talked to like to retain ownership and control over their properties, so this option is not acceptable.
Hosthub has built a custom API connection to Vrbo that allows us to sync rates and availability between Vrbo and any other channel in real time and with top-level reliability, on par with the connection available to large property managers. This means that our users are entitled to our Zero Double Booking Guarantee since their calendars are synced in real time minimizing the risk of double bookings. Rates are also synced in real time – and that was not even possible before now for hosts with less than 5 properties!
If you’re already a Hosthub user and listed on Vrbo, just ask our support via live chat to check if your account has switched to our Vrbo API. If you’re not a Hosthub customer yet, you can try us out for free for 14 days here.
